JASM is pleased to announce "Sake Tasting and Ceramics Talk: Thinking outside the Bottle" on Thursday, December 3 at 6 pm which will be our second sake tasting experience. This time the event features sake expert, Chris Griese, from Sake Story and art historian, Dr. Andreas Marks, the Head of the Japanese and Korean Art Department at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Chris Griese will discuss three sake selected by him, while Dr. Marks will present ceramic sake cups and talk about how they enhance the tasting experience. There will also be the option for you to take part in the sake tasting if you purchase them from one of our corporate members, Surdyk's. You'll be able to taste the flavor and learn all about the sake selection from the comfort of your home.

About Dr. Marks' presentation:

A beautiful, well-designed cup enhances the experience and pleasure of drinking. Sake is traditionally sipped from guinomi, small cups that demand frequent refilling. Masterpieces in miniature, these little cups condense the skill, technique, and personal style of a potter. Today, artists are free to innovate and push the limits of form, while others uphold tradition. This presentation will introduce guinomi made of stoneware or porcelain by nine living artists, including Fukami Sueharu (b. 1947), internationally renowned for his abstract sculptures, as well as Fukumoto Fuku (b. 1973), one of the leading women ceramicists today.
